Welcome to the Teachers4Teachers website
Teachers4Teachers is a volunteer organization where Dutch and Kenyan teachers work together and learn from each other. The main goal of the T4T Foundation is to improve the development of education in Kenya. We achieve this by organising exchange-programmes involving Dutch and Kenyan teachers and head teachers of the primary education systems.
Currently, we work with approximately 320 schools in Kenya in the coastal province south of Mombasa. Intensive brainstorming sessions occur twice a year (in spring and autumn) at the Kenyan schools, where ideas and experiences are exchanged between the Dutch and Kenyan teachers. The Dutch participants and their Kenyan colleagues discuss possible solutions for the current educational problems and they agree on tangible learning activities. Based on the outcomes of these discussions, development plans are made and the Kenyan participants put the methods into practice. At the next exchange, progress is evaluated and follow-up steps are decided upon.
Succes of the T4T approach has been recognized since it has been added to the annual programme of the local Kenyan government. One important guideline is that the head teachers and teachers in Kenya are to decide which themes are discussed in the exchange-programme. The encounter between the (head) teachers from two different cultures is beneficial for all involved and provides insight into the importance of exchange and support.
In addition to this exchange programme, we have started a school leaders course and we support women who want to follow the kindergarten teachers' training programme.
In the Netherlands we work with a number of school boards that support our work in Kenya financially and physically by sending staff.
