CSO’s see added value of T4T in Kwale

During the evaluation of Teachers4teachers activities in Kwale 2017 the Curriculum Support Officers expressed their appreciation to director Francis Nzai for the workshops, training and courses in February and September. According to their opinion and observations the enormous increase of the KCPE-score in Kwale (18,6% higher than last year) is partly due to the T4T program, which focuses on active learner participation and a coaching approach to teachers and head teachers. In fact the programmes are not only beneficial to the KCPE, but to total development of children. The CSO’s said, that since they started joining the program in 2010 they view education not only on the context of results, but the total development. They also appreciated the T4T approach of the TPAD in which the focus lies on development instead of just judging teachers and head teachers. It brought them a new, more beneficial perspective in working with the TPAD.

While one third of the CSO’s probably is transferred, they like to refresh their knowledge and skills of the coaching approach and how to empower the (head) teachers again. Furthermore they suggest that it would be useful to connect one coach to a CSO in every Zone to share program’s early enough. In addition they emphasize on eleborating plans for follow up activities after the workshops. We like these suggestions a lot  as a way of implementing the knowledge and skills sustainably.

And last but not least, the CSO’s proposed to include the sub county Special Needs Coordinators in their programme and invited them for the kick off in February 2018 as their schools are integrated.
